The Refit - PART II

The Mammoth project....

It became clear to us right in the beginning that the right way to tackle this project was to start right back in the beginning. This meant we stripped her right back to bare hull and started again, it was going to be the only way to do the job properly! The first goal was to rebuild the entire aft section of the interior and make it 'liveable' so we can move aboard. We then shifted our focus to building our master cabin before we started work on the outside repairing and repainting her topsides, making modifications on the deck including a new forward cockpit and hardtop. This was followed by modifications on the keel to reduce her draft. Once this phase was completed we moved back inside to finish the forward section, the guest accommodation. Our job list was long and by then the race was on to make our launch date with many jobs finished on the water! Due to the extent of this project (and with no outside funding) we chose to follow functional and cost-effective but structurally sound boatbuilding techniques and finishes with low-maintenance in mind. There are a significant number of photos in the slideshow starting right in the beginning of the project.
